Book Description

Pam Leach and her team of designers have created 20 gorgeous modern friendship bracelets for you to make.

Traditionally, friendship bracelets were created by North American Indians using a simple piece of knotted cord, but more recently they have evolved to include a multitude of materials, techniques and styles. Modern designs use leather, suede, ribbon and cord, and feature charms, beads and crystals there are no rules and you are limited only by your imagination! However, the spirit of the friendship bracelet remains a handmade gift to celebrate and confirm a special friendship. The twenty designs in this book range from those that are beautifully simple and easy to make, to some that may take a little longer but are well worth the effort. Each project is accompanied by a list of the materials and tools needed, step-by-step instructions and beautiful photographs of the finished piece, and with two versions of each design to choose from, you cannot fail to be inspired by at least one of the projects in this book. Some of the designs use simple knotting and plaiting techniques, and these are shown in clear, step-by-step pictures at the beginning of the book. Once you have mastered these, there are no limits to the designs that you can make.

The Bead Society of Great Britian

This simple & very affordable book is a great introduction to friendship bracelets. Learning just two basic knotting techniques allows your to make 20 different bracelets. The two knots used are explained in detail at the beginning of the book in both words & diagrams. Learn these and you are ready for off. Knot tying techniques have arisen spontaneously in several ancient cultures and the traditions maintained to the present day. Modern day friendship bracelets emerged in Central America in the 1970's when family and friends protesting about the disappearances of Mayan Indians and peasants in Guatemala wore them. They are generally used today however as a symbol of friendship, given by one person to another. With this little book you can soon make many friends very happy. Pam gives a variety of styles, none of which require any specialist equipment. All the materials used are readily available from bead sellers or haberdashers and nothing is set in stone. You can easily substitute a given material for another of your choosing so nothing need hold you back. Each project is displayed with large coloured photographs and the construction explained step by step. Within a couple of hours you can soon be wearing your own fun creation.

As you know I am a big fan of the Twenty to Make books. I love the way you can buy these books for a small charge and be able to make so much from them. This book doesn't let the range down. Using many varied different types of materials you are given lots of fun and interesting bracelets to make. The other good thing about the book is you can take what you learn and use it with whatever you have to hand to create your own designs. The book gives you everything you need to make each of the bracelets. This includes plating techniques, which are explained in both written and diagram format. This would be a brilliant book for teenage girls. If they want that something for themselves or friends then I am sure they'll soon want to be making some of these. I even chose to make one for me. I used DMS Natura cotton yarn and a button I'd made myself. I really enjoyed this book and I loved how I could make some of the designs out of things I had around the house. I've got my eye on a few to make as presents for family members. I've just got to order a couple of things and I'll be making some more. http://www.crochetaddictuk.com/2014/06/20-to-make-modern-friendship-bracelets.html
