Sarah King first discovered papercutting four years ago when she was looking for a way to decorate her home. She soon discovered a new hobby and her unusual style of working with layers of coloured paper and card led to her pieces being sold at exhibitions and galleries. Her art encapsulates the beauty of the English countryside, particularly the towns and villages around the Kent coast where she lives. She continues to showcase her work from her online outlet Apple Seed Paper Cuts.

We asked Sarah what she had planned this coming year:

‘This year I’m focusing on creating a number of colourful pieces based on real English seaside towns - as you know I love the coast so I am looking forward to making lots of site visits for inspiration! I have also started a collection of very delicate, single-colour landscape pieces which are a challenge both to draw and to cut and, while my style is still recognisable, they are quite different to my colour landscapes.

I will continue to add my new range of designs to merchandise, such as cushions and bags, and I’m looking to expand to different products. I will also be exhibiting my work later in 2019 - it’s going to be a busy year!’

In her brand new book Papercut Landscapes, Sarah shows you just how easy it is to create uplifting, joyful landscape scenes from the coast to the countryside. Papercutting is a perfect craft for beginners - you can achieve amazing results with the most basic of materials. All you need is a pencil, eraser, craft knife or scalpel, a piece of paper and a cutting surface!

To help you get started in your papercutting adventures, we're giving 5 lucky winners a copy of Papercut Landscapes along with a paper pack from Sarah's own supplier PaperStory!
