A cute cup of Christmas cheer for everyone’s favourite time of year! Bundle up with this adorable amigurumi hot chocolate complete with marshmallows. Sarah-Jane Hicks, author of Amigurumi Christmas, guides you through how to make this kawaii Christmas treat!

Materials

1 ball of DK (8ply/light worstead) cotton yarn in red (A), white (B), brown (C) and pink (D); 20g/43m/47yd

8/9mm safety eyes

Black embroidery thread

Hook: 3.5mm (UK 9/10, US 4)Toy stuffing

Size: 8cm (3.25in) tall



Instructions

Mug

Using yarn A, 2 ch.

Round 1: 6 dc in second ch from hook (6 sts).

Round 2: 2 dc in each st around (12 sts).

Round 3: (1 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (18 sts).

Round 4: (2 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (24 sts).

Round 5: (3 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (30 sts).

Round 6: (4 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (36 sts).

Round 7: working in BLO, 1 dc in each st around.

Rounds 8 to 16: 1 dc in each st around.

Round 17: Join yarn B, 1 dc in each st around.

Round 18: working in FLO, 1 dc in each st around.

Round 19: 1 dc in each st around.

Round 20: sl st in each st around.

Fasten off.



Hot Chocolate

Using yarn C, 2 ch.

Round 1: 6 dc in second ch from hook (6 sts).

Round 2: 2 dc in each st around (12 sts).

Round 3: (1 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (18 sts).

Round 4: (2 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (24 sts).

Round 5: (3 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (30 sts).

Round 6: (4 dc, 2 dc in next st) six times (36 sts).

Fasten off leaving a long yarn tail to attach hot chocolate to mug.

 

Handle

Using yarn A, 2 ch.

Round 1: 6 dc in second ch from hook (6 sts).

Round 2: 1 dc in each st around.

Change to yarn B and work two rounds in yarn B and two in A throughout rest of handle. Do not cut yarn not being used, instead drop yarn and carry up inside handle until needed.

Rounds 3 to 18: 1 dc in each st around.

Fasten off leaving a long yarn tail to attach handle to mug.

 

Marshmallow (make 1 in yarn B and 2 in yarn D)

Using yarn B or D, 2 ch.

Round 1: 6 dc in second ch from hook (6 sts).

Round 2: 2 dc in each st around (12 sts).

Round 3: working in BLO, 1 dc in each st around.

Rounds 4 to 6: 1 dc in each st around.

Stuff marshmallow.

Round 7: working in BLO, dc2tog six times (6 sts).

Fasten off and sew opening closed.

 

Making up

Attach safety eyes to mug between rounds 13 and 14 of mug 6 sts apart. Using black embroidery thread embroider mouth and using pink yarn embroider cheeks. Sew hot chocolate to mug through both loops of hot chocolate and BLO of round 17 of mug. Stuff before finishing. Sew handle to side of mug, round 1 forms the bottom of the handle and round 18 the top. Sew marshmallows to hot chocolate. Weave in ends.
