Reviews

Library Journal USA

Though the roots of mosaic stretch back to ancient times, its a thoroughly contemporary form of decorative art often seen in public spaces. This guide provides a concise introduction to mosaic, with a focus on decorative items and embellishments for the home. With the exception of specialty tiles and grout, most of the supplies used for mosaic making can be purchased at hardware stores, making mosaic an easy craft for beginners. The projects range from simple configurations of square tiles in Aztec and Persian-style patterns to more complex pieces requiring tile cutting and curved shapes. The directions are easy to follow and feature plenty of full-color photos, and once the basics are mastered, its easy to adapt the process to create custom designs. VERDICT This beginners guide will appeal to crafters as well as readers with an interest in home improvement and interior design.

This book may say it's a beginner's guide but I would personally say that the projects

are good enough for anyone that wants to make the mosaic designs. The book starts with the history of mosaic's and then asks you can join by making the eight projects in the book.

The book also invites you to use the techniques to create your own mosaic's with your own designs. You learn all about the different materials you can use and the tools you will need.

You will need a number of tools before you can start making mosaic's but once you have the

tools you can then use them on all of your projects. Each projects is broken down into steps.

Each of these steps include a picture to show you what you should be doing. The instructions and the pictures are clear and easy to understand. There are little notes throughout the book

which can help you on each of the projects. The colours used are ideal for each of the projects

but you can always amend them to your own tastes or decor. At the start of each project you have a full list of all the materials you will need. They also include notes where you might

be able to get some of the materials easier. I will be making a number of the projects from the book, infact I really like all of the projects. An ideal book for a beginner but also good for someone who wants help making beautiful mosaics.
